HISTORY

Schlagg-Man is a career criminal on his homeworld of Bismoll. When he bit through a policeman’s neck, the judge ordered Schlagg-Man’s teeth be removed. Now that Schlagg-Man has replaced his missing teeth with Bismollian steel, he can bite through virtually anything, and is looking for revenge against the judge.

Schlagg-Man was present on Qward when Kyle Rayner was abducted and stripped of the Ion entity. Schlagg-Man’s later activities during the war with the Green Lantern Corps have yet to be detailed.

At some point, Schlagg-Man was captured and imprisoned in the Sciencells on Oa.

A prison riot initiated by the rampage of Red Lantern Vice led the escape of the Sciencell prisoners. The yellow power rings were released from containment, finding their way to the Sinestro Corps. Schlagg-Man was executed by Alpha-Lantern Varix, his Bismollian steel teeth scattered across Oa.

GLCWP NOTE

Schlagg-Man is named for DC Comics editor Adam Schlagman. Just for the record, the character and the actual person do not look alike.

Bismoll is of course most notable for 30/31st Century hero Tenzel Kem AKA Matter-Eater Lad of the Legion of Super-Heroes. There’s been varying stories about Bismoll’s history, particularly in regard to the unusual powers of its natives.

In the Atlas of the DC Universe, I found it had been colonized during the 25th century. Cut off from the rest of the United Planets, their world fell victim to a microbe which rendered all organic matter poisonous. The Bismollians bioengineered an enzyme which changed their physiology, giving them the ability to ingest inorganic matter.

Other stories, most notably Legion of Super-Heroes Annual Vol. 4 #2 (1991) had Bismoll established as a "buffer world" between Earth and Elia, the Dominator homeworld. Bismoll, Carggg, Geequo, Janus, Lallor, Mlain, Myrnah, Somahtur, Thanar, Tharr, Winath, and Zwen were seeded by Daxamite Lar Gand (better known as Valor or Mon-El) with humans altered by Dominator experiments. These worlds, with their now-super powered inhabitants (thanks to the Dominators) would protect Earth should the Dominion launch another invasion.

Now that we’re in the post-Infinite Crisis timeline, it is entirely possible Bismoll was already populated by an inorganic matter-eating species, but the biography in Green Lantern/Sinestro Corps Secret Files #1 doesn’t specify if Schlagg-Man has "Matter-Eater Lad" powers, or just likes to bite things he shouldn’t.
