Synopsis: - Superman discovers that something odd has happened to the oxygen in some areas, making it non-combustible. Meanwhile, his team-mates Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and Plastic Man battle to keep the citizens of Murmansk safe behind a radiation-proof energy dome. They are not helped when someone in the crowd attempts to manipulate them as well as the ordinary people, but once found, these people are soon stopped and the JLA realize that they are dealing with Martians.
- Batman uses this information, coupled with the sighting of 'ghosts' across the country, to pinpoint the White Martians' base of operations, and decides to make a move against them, taking Brainwave's neural amplifier with him to give him a fighting chance. Superman, meanwhile, recruits Firestorm to begin transmuting the strange O2 back to how it should be. Batman discovers a facility where the White Martians are harvesting the brains of latent human telepaths. Unfortunately, he is detected by the Martians, and although J'onn is able to keep them from killing him, only Batman is able to escape. As he does so, the leaders of the Martians send out a telepathic call to the rest of the race...their mission: to kill the heroes of the Justice League.
