HISTORY
Duel Eknham hailed from the planet Siamgemi. His misshapen body possessed two vestigial heads fused at the brow. The heads each had separate mouths and working in tandem, controlled their respective sides of their shared body. The right side was methodical while the left side was bestial. Both were criminally insane, inherently murderous and argued almost constantly.
Eknham had been confined within the Penal Institute of Mental Health on the planet Sedas. It was during a rampage through the Penal Institute that Duel was selected to join the Sinestro Corps. The bestial left half was in possession of the yellow ring, much to the consternation of the methodical right half. There was little time to argue the point as the arrival of Mongul demanded their full attention. The conqueror wielded a number of yellow power rings and offered Duel the option to serve him or refuse and die like the six would-be Sinestro Corps ring wielders before him.
Soon, two Green Lanterns Arisia and Sodam Yat investigated the yellow ring energy signatures. The Lanterns were taken by surprise and captured by Mongul and Duel Eknham. They were taken to the Black Mercy planet in Sector 2261. The “Mother Mercy” of the plants was Matris Ater Clementia, a creature that created her children to spread hope while Mongul had used the Sinestro Corps rings to change the Black Mercy plants to spread fear.
Though Duel Enknham wanted to kill the Lanterns, they were given over to the Black Mercy plants to serve as food. When they died, they would be stripped of their Oan power rings. While the Lanterns were being digested, Eknham assisted Mongul in sending the modified Black Mercy plants out into space. The Lanterns were freed briefly by eight other Lanterns who were also captured by Mongul and the Black Mercy plants.
Eknham was growing impatient as both of his sides wanted to kill the Lanterns, rather than wait for them to die. He was also constantly arguing with himself. Duel Eknham’s bickering sides angered Mongul so that he cleaved Eknham in two. Mongul’s ring constructed energy forms for each side of the split, sparing Duel Eknham a mortal wound. The more reasoned half accompanied Mongul into space while the bestial half remained on the planet with the yellow power ring.
Impatient as ever, the ring-wielding Duel Eknham let his guard down. He believed Matris Ater Clementia had digested the Lanterns when a power ring came to the surface. Instead, he was obliterated by Green Lantern Guy Gardner.
When Guy Gardner killed the planet side Duel Eknham, the yellow ring went out into space to seek a new recruit, finding the surviving half of Duel Eknham. The methodical half did not have long to savor his victory as he realized it meant his bestial half had been killed. Within seconds of receiving the ring Duel’s methodical half was also killed by the pursuing Green Lanterns.
The yellow Sinestro Corps ring sought out a new wielder, in the form of Matris Ater Clementia. Coincidentally, so did the power ring of the late Green Lantern Bzzd. In the end, Matris Ater Clementia chose to join the Green Lanterns and reject the Sinestro Corps. The yellow ring was captured by the Lanterns and taken to Oa.

GLCWP NOTE
Duel Eknham’s last name is Mahnke spelled backwards. Doug Mahnke was the artist of Black Adam, which was written by Peter Tomasi. Duel’s homeworld of “Siamgemi” appears to be inspired by Siamese twins and Gemini.
There is no established relationship between Duel Eknham and the “stitched together” Sinestro Corps soldier seen in Green Lantern: Sinestro Corps Special #1. Peter Tomasi had forgotten the similarly designed character.
