HISTORY

Sodam Yat is a Daxamite hailed as the ultimate Green Lantern. His coming was prophesied to Lantern Abin Sur by Qull of the Five Inversions, a demon from the Empire of Tears. The story concerns the final battle of the Green Lantern Corps.

"After untold millennia, the enemies of the Green Lantern Corps will rise united against them. The Corps shall be destroyed to the last life form. The planet Oa shall be as dust. Among the gathered foeman shall be numbered the Weaponers of Qward, Ranx the Sentient City, and the unspeakable Children of the White Lobe. The Empire of Tears, finally released from entombment, shall join the assault. Sodam Yat, a Daxamite hailed as the ultimate Green Lantern will perish battling the lobe-spawn. The planet-form Green Lantern Mogo will be the last to fall as Ranx explodes a blink-bomb within his core..." - Green Lantern Corps Annual #2

Sodam Yat was born on the planet Daxam in Space Sector 1760. Orbiting a red sun, Daxam had a number of similarities to the planet Krypton, and it is speculated the populations of both worlds had a common ancestry. Daxam was a xenophobic world, perhaps due to the Daxamite mortal vulnerability to lead. Regardless, Sodam Yat spent his early years watching the stars. This was a pastime not condoned by his parents as they demanded their son focus solely on his homeworld. Despite their insistence, Sodam Yat continued to dream beyond Daxam, but now it was in secret.

One day, he tracked a starship falling from the heavens. Sodam Yat tracked down the ship and nursed the alien pilot, Tessog, back to health. Wary of his homeworld's intolerance, Sodam Yat wisely hid the wreckage of Tessog’s damaged starship. The boy and the alien became friends, with Sodam Yat learning about the worlds beyond Daxam. One day, however, that came to an abrupt end. The cave which had hidden Tessog was wiped clean of anything marking his friend's existence. His parent brought Sodam in for behavior modification, to convince him aliens were warlike and evil.

Later, during a trip to a museum with his school, Sodam Yat was a display featuring Tessog as a violent creature attacking helpless Daxamites. He was disgusted with his homeworld for the death of his friend. For years after, Sodam Yat would sneak away from his family to rebuild Tessog’s starship in the hope of leaving Daxam. On the very day the starcraft was completed, a power ring appeared before him, and he was inducted into the Green Lantern Corps. Sodam Yat left his homeworld behind and never looked back. - Green Lantern Corps Vol. 2 #19

Like most Green Lanterns, Sodam Yat underwent basic training on Oa. He did not appear particularly adept at first, and his clumsiness once enraged Kilowog. - Green Lantern Corps Vol. 2 #12

Whether they were ready or not, the Green Lanterns, both veterans and rookies alike, soon found themselves in the thick of battle as war erupted with the Sinestro Corps. A contingent of Lanterns was dispatched to defend the planet form Lantern Mogo from a Sinestro Corps onslaught. Should Mogo fall, the power rings would not be able to find new wielders and recruiting would halt. Mogo was already injured, and faced the Sinestro Corps, Manhunters, Ranx the Sentient City, and the Children of the White Lobe.

Under orders from Salakk, Lantern Arisia was to protect Sodam Yat at all costs, even if it meant disobeying the orders of Kilowog. Once Salakk and the Guardians learned Ranx and the Children of the White Lobe were embroiled in the battle with Mogo, they ordered Sodam Yat to return to Oa, but he would not heed their orders. Sodam Yat handled himself with remarkable confidence and skill, often leading the charge on their enemies and gaining the respect of his fellow Lanterns. - Green Lantern Corps Vol. 2 #14 - 16

Realizing their Lanterns would fall before the ruthless Sinestro Corps, the Guardians of the Universe rewrote the Book of Oa to allow lethal force. Lantern Sodam Yat avenged fallen Lantern Chthos-Chthas Chthatis by slaying his killer, Sinestro Corps soldier Enkafos. Sodam Yat then turned on Ranx, and destroyed the sentient city. The Sinestro Corps was forced to withdraw. - Green Lantern Corps Vol. 2 #16

With Mogo safe, the Lanterns converged on Earth, the ultimate target for the Sinestro Corps as it was the center of the multiverse. Despite orders from superior officers, Sodam Yat led a charge on the Anti-Monitor himself. A number of Lanterns followed, and were blasted out of the sky by the more powerful Anti-Monitor. The Green Lantern of Sector 2020 was one of the fatalities, but Sodam Yat survived to make a second run at the Anti-Monitor. This attack was also repelled. Though near death, Sodam Yat’s Daxamite physiology absorbed the energy from Earth’s yellow sun, restoring his health. - Green Lantern Corps Vol. 2 #17

To combat the Anti-Monitor and Superboy-Prime, the Guardians of the Universe merged the power of Ion with Sodam Yat. Though incredibly powerful due to the Ion entity and his Daxamite super powers while under Earth’s yellow sun, Sodam Yat was still outmatched by Superboy-Prime. The battle was furious, with Yat being exposed to fatal amounts of lead when the battle led them due a nuclear power plant. Only Yat’s power ring kept his Daxamite physiology from succumbing to lead poisoning. Sodam Yat, the new Ion, was defeated. - Green Lantern Corps Vol. 2 #18

Sodam Yat would recover from his injuries to serve the Guardians following the end of the Sinestro Corps War. He was partnered with Arisia Rrab, who it was said might have been a candidate as a host for Ion as well. - Green Lantern Corps Vol. 2 #19

POWERS AND WEAPONS

As a Green Lantern, Sodam Yat possesses a power ring and a power battery. His Daxamite lineage grants him super-human strength, invulnerability, flight, heat vision, and freeze-breath while charged by the rays of a yellow sun, like Earth's.

For a time, Sodam Yat was also the host for Ion, granting him access to the vast power of the entity of will.
