Synopsis:

Without a human host to control it, the Spectre-force continues its campaign against all things magic. Nabu, now also without a human host (Dr. Fate) hatches a plan to top the rampaging spirit of vengeance together with Madame Xanadu, Zatanna and the Phantom Stranger. Shortly thereafter, the Phantom Stranger and Zatanna leads a number of supernatural superheroes to Gotham City, recently devastated by the destruction of the Rock of Eternity, former home of the late wizard Shazam. Their task is to capture the escaped Seven Deadly Enemies of Man and to reassemble the Rock of Eternity. But there are prices to be paid. Captain Marvel finds that he must take the place of the wizard, trapped inside the rock for all eternity, in order to keep the wild magic in check. Nightshade is kidnapped by Felix Faust and the Demons Three. But Nabu makes the ultimate sacrifice when he engages the Spectre-force in a battle to the death. As planned, the Spectre's atrocities finally gets the attention of his master in Heaven, and he is whisked away. With his last dying breath, Nabu delivers the Helmet of Fate to the assembled superheroes, asking them to carry on his legacy. At the suggestion of the Detective Chimp, the helmet is thrown into space so that fate itself can decide where it ends up next.
