HISTORY

The first Volcano Man is the "real" one. However, there have been several "false" Volcano Men as well. The Challengers of the Unknown investigated the legend of the Volcano Man when they were apparently attacked by him. However, this turned out to be just one of an army of synthetically-created Volcano Men created by the criminal scientist Dr. Edward Gruner who used people's superstition to realize his dreams of world-domination. Nevertheless, the real Volcano Man, upon whom the legends are based, entered the stage and defeated his smaller and less powerful pretenders. The original Volcano Man was later found by the villain Drabny, and joined the League of Challenger-Haters, who fought the Challengers and the Doom Patrol on several occasions. The only "word" Volcano Man ever utters is "Ssssss".
