OVERVIEW

There have been several incarnations of the metahuman team known as the Doom Patrol over the years. The common denominator for all these incarnations has always been that the Doom Patrol has always served as a refuge for misfits and outsiders. Originally assembled by The Chief, Niles Caulder, the Doom Patrol defends humanity against all kinds of strange, weird and alien threats.

HISTORY

A group of misfits and outcasts brought together by Niles Caulder, whom they called The Chief, to protect himself from his enemies. At best reluctant super-heroes, Robotman, Elasti-Girl and Negative Man nevertheless sacrificed their lives to save an island-full of people, though both Robotman and Negative Man somehow survived the experience.

The team was reformed by Celsius, bringing in two new members; Tempest and Negative Woman and recruiting the (believed at the time) only surviving member of the original team, Robotman. This group held together for a time, but broke up due to personal differences.

Celsius would later reform the team again, mostly with younger, untried heroes. Then she died in an alien invasion, the Chief returned and things got very strange for the Patrol who spent some time encountering most of the strangeness on the planet.

Businessman Thayer Jost organized another version of the Doom Patrol, with Robotman leading a team of inexperienced metahumans into the customary bizarre adventures.
