HISTORY
The Children of the White Lobe are described as a religious cult, and appear to be mutants resembling infant humanoids. Their world of origin, full history and extent of their influence is not yet known. They are particularly vicious with little respect for life, and have a great hatred of the Green Lantern Corps. A member of the Children of the White Lobe, a so-called "lobe spawn" would rather die than be captured by a Green Lantern... though they’d prefer the Lantern die with them. - Green Lantern Corps Vol. 2 #5
The Children of the White Lobe are mentioned in the prophecy known as "the Darkest Night." As told years ago to the late Abin Sur of Ungara, Green Lantern of Sector 2814 by Qull of the Empire of Tears:
"After untold millennia, the enemies of the Green Lantern Corps will rise united against them. The Corps shall be destroyed to the last life form. The planet Oa shall be as dust. Among the gathered foeman shall be numbered the Weaponers of Qward, Ranx the Sentient City, and the unspeakable Children of the White Lobe. The Empire of Tears, finally released from entombment, shall join the assault. Sodam Yat, a Daxamite hailed as the ultimate Green Lantern will perish battling the lobe-spawn. The planet-form Green Lantern Mogo will be the last to fall as Ranx explodes a blink-bomb within his core..." - Green Lantern Corps Annual #2
When one of the leaders of the Children of the White Lobe was taken prisoner in Space Sector 73 retaliation was taken. A Lobe Spawn kidnapped a local politician's daughter to trade for their leader's release. This action garnered the attention of the Green Lantern Corps. Attempting to escape law enforcement, the Lobe Spawn sought to hide in another enemy of the Corps, Ranx the Sentient City. One of Sector 73's lanterns, Chthos-Chthas Chthatis, was joined by Honor Guard lantern Guy Gardner. Despite a hostile response from Ranx the lanterns were able to locate the kidnapper and the victim. Though caught, the lobe spawn detonated a bomb, preferring death to captivity at the hands of the Green Lantern Corps. - Green Lantern Corps Vol. 2 #5
The next reported activity of the Lobe Spawn was on the planet Nibelos in Space Sector 1417. Nibelos was the only known source of tellurium, a mineral with the unique property of being able to transmute mental energy into heat. To protect the tellurium from stray mental energies it was kept insulated in containers made of solid angratite. Exposing it to increased mental energy, the tellurium would be subject to explosive superheating. The Children of the White Lobe would implant the mineral within themselves to become living bombs. To this end, they seized control of the mining operations to gather as much tellurium as possible. Sector 1417 lanterns Soranik Natu of Korugar and Princess Iolande of Betrassus were able to save the hostage miners. The lanterns wrapped the Lobe Spawn in angatite to prevent them from detonating all the tellarium in the mine. - Green Lantern Corps Vol. 2 #11
The Children of the White Lobe have allied themselves with the Sinestro Corps, uniting with Ranx and the Sinestro Corps in an attack on the Green Lantern Mogo in Space Sector 2261. It has been recently learned that the blink bombs supplied to the Children of the White Lobe were created by Seer Ruggle of Rorc, the Sinestro Corps member of Sector 2700. It is not known if there is any relationship between the Children of the White Lobe and the Sinestro Corps member Kryb, who is feared in Sector 3599 for stealing infant children after slaying their parents. - Green Lantern/Sinestro Corps Secret Files #1
Using the power of Ranx's gravity disruptors, the Sinestro Corps carved deep inside Mogo to get to the power ring at his core. With Sinestro Corps member Enkafos of Sector 2981 coordinating the attack, the Lobe Spawn named Ravallian sent his fellow Children against the Green Lanterns. A number of Lobe Spawn travelled through the tunnel in order to sacrifice their lives to destroy Mogo, but were stopped by the Green Lantern Corps. The convergence of the Children of White Lobe, Ranx the Sentient City, Mogo and Sodam Yat on the same battlefield caused great concern amongst the Guardians of the Universe that the prophecy of the Darkest Night might come true. To prevent this, the Guardians authorized lethal force against the Sinestro Corps and Mogo was saved from destruction. Some of the Children of the White Lobe were incinerated, rather than captured. Ranx the Sentient City was destroyed by Sodam Yat. - Green Lantern Corps Vol. 2 #14-16
The current status of the Children of the White Lobe has yet to be revealed.
