Synopsis:

Eel O'Brian fears that he will return to his criminal past and begins to track down the civilian identities of the other Leaguers who were split from their heroic selves: he finds that Wally West is losing his wife and Kyle Rayner is descending into madness without the Green Lantern power ring to express his imagination freely. John Jones, however, has been cured of his fear of fire and his feelings of being the last of his kind, and will not help O'Brian. In San Francisco, scarred beauty queen Pamela Rose screams at the media not to look at her, and suddenly a huge section of the populace go blind. While the Cathexis track Rose down to reverse the effect of Id's power on her wish, the JLA struggle to contain the chaos; however, Plastic Man is himself uncontrollable, Batman is passive, Superman is alien and aloof, Green Lantern has little imagination and the Flash simply revels in his speed. At the same time, in Gotham, Bruce Wayne lashes out both violently and ineffectually at another mugger. This mugger turns out to be Eel O'Brian, who has deduced that Batman's rage actually belongs to Bruce Wayne, who now has no way of channeling it. This demonstration serves to convince all the other 'alter egos', even John Jones, that they must do something.
Back in San Francisco, the League is led to Id, and the Flash is able to keep it still. As soon as this is accomplished, the Cathexis cause an explosion which knocks the JLA off their feet and move off with Id. They cackle that there is no-one who can now stand against them, but are faced not with the world's greatest heroes, but with the world's greatest secret identities.
