HISTORY

A man who was struck by lightning and yet survived, David Hersch convinced himself this was a sign that he was to live forever; quite possibly a sign from one who bears the lightning as a symbol: the Flash. In order to ensure his continued existence, Cicada slew many people, choosing as his victims those whom the Flash (Wally West) had saved from death - obviously saved for him to use. He headed up a cult devoted to the Flash and prepared to die, including the powerful Magenta among its members.

When Cicada tried to raise his deceased wife to life again (against her wishes, he having killed her in the first place), he was opposed by the Flash and incarcerated in Iron Heights. Encounters with Cicada during this adventure gave Flash a lightning-shaped scar on his chest and Detective Jared Morillo of the Keystone Police Department an ability to heal instantly from his wounds.
