OVERVIEW
Captain Boomerang was a career criminal who used boomerangs as his gimmick. He was generally put in prison by the Flash. He was killed while doing a hit on Jack Drake, the father of Batman's partner Robin (Tim Drake). His son Owen Mercer carried on his name and legacy until he was also killed.
HISTORY
George Harkness is a native of Australia, sent to America by his mother, desperate to get him away from his stepfather. He took a job demonstrating boomerangs, but, not being a particularly moral guy, liked to line his pockets with a spot of pilfering as well. This brought him into conflict with the Flash, whom Harkness would oppose, as Captain Boomerang, with a variety of ever more bizarre boomerang gadgets. He would do this both on his own and as a part of the Flash's Rogues.
After the death of the Flash during the event dubbed 'Crisis on Infinite Earths', Captain Boomerang spent a long stretch of time serving on the government-sponsored Suicide Squad. For a while he seemed to reform, but he came back, bad as ever, ready to prove a thorn in the side of the new Flash. However, by now he was washed up, reduced to dealing in (probably fake) Miraclo and similar substances. Shortly after meeting his son, Owen Mercer, Captain Boomerang was hired to kill Jack Drake, the father of Batman's partner Robin (Tim Drake). He succeeded, but was killed himself at the same time.
His son Owen Mercer carried on his name and legacy until he was also killed.
During the event known as the 'Blackest Night', a black ring placed itself amidst his remains, downloaded his memories and created a duplicate of his body that rose from the grave as a member of the Black Lantern Corps. He was brought back to life by the Light Entity, and is active in crime once more.
