HISTORY
Seeking to destroy those who enslaved his race, Tybalt Bak'sar and his accomplices destroyed the planet Zapher, killing over eight billion. Over one billion of those were of Tybalt Bak'sar's own race, a fate Tybalt found better than slavery.
When the Green Lantern Corps arrived to apprehend the killers of Zapher, the Green Lantern of Ungara, Abin Sur, saved his life so that he might stand trial. On Oa, the Guardians of the Universe found Tybalt Bak'sar guilty and sentenced him to the prison planet. Tybalt Bak'sar swore to destroy his enemies, counting Abin Sur his greatest enemy of all.
During his imprisonment, Tybalt Bak'sar was visited by an Emissary of the Weaponers of Qward. Though he did not know of Qward, he accepted their offer of weapons to crush the Guardians and the Green Lanterns. The Weaponers of Qward hailed from an antimatter universe had been searching for an agent to act on their behalf in the positive matter universe. Tybalt Bak'sar would be the ideal candidate.
Returning from Qward, Tybalt Bak'sar was armed yellow energy weapons and explosive charges. He flew on an antigravity platform but also possessed jet packs on his belt. His first target was Abin Sur.
A few years before the emergence of Superman, their battle led to Earth, where Abin Sur would make his stand. Local media brought attention to the two combatants, sparking the arrival of J'onn J'onnz, the Martian Manhunter. J'onnz forcibly separated the combatants. A Maleca'andrian by birth, J'onnz had come to Earth some years before, keeping a low profile. He would later go on to a more public role, becoming a founding member of the Justice League of America. Untold centuries before, the Maleca'andrians had declined to join the Green Lantern Corps. The Maleca'andrians would protect the solar system and made a pact with the Guardians of the Universe that as long as they existed this would be so. The Guardians agreed to this, however, they reserved the right to pursue any that would flee to the solar system.
J'onn J'onnz did not wish the pair on Earth and questioned the reason they had come. Tybalt Bak'sar explained he had come to slay Abin Sur, while the Green Lantern explained he was seeking Alan Scott. Endangered by the yellow weakness of his power ring, Abin Sur had sought the assistance of Alan Scott.
Even though Alan Scott was not of the Corps, once Tybalt learned of another Green Lantern to kill he renewed his attack. Though he disliked the Green Lantern Corps, J'onn J'onnz had a deep respect for Alan Scott and was forced to take sides against Abin Sur’s foe. Tybalt Bak'sar would have killed the Maleca'andrian hero, were it not for Abin Sur. The Green Lantern caused a diversion which gave him time to move J'onnz out of harm's way.
While Abin Sur tended to his new ally, Tybalt Bak'sar struck him, breaking the Green Lantern's concentration. He demanded the Ungaran bring the other Green Lantern to him, so he might kill them both. Brutal force could not sway Abin Sur’s resolve, Tybalt threatened to destroy the entire planet.
Unable to go through the flames, J'onn J'onnz instead went under them. Reaching up from beneath the ground, J'onnz pulled Tybalt into the Earth. Abin Sur was too weak to focus the ring so the heroes fled to the desert.
Tybalt Bak'sar found himself caught in a ring generated sand tornado. Worse, the Maleca'andrian was able to find his way through the wind and sand to ultimately destroy the power supply on his back. Tybalt Bak'sar was struck from the sky, now weaponless. Tybalt Bak'sar was delivered once more to the Guardians of the Universe where he would face imprisonment. Once more, he swore to kill Abin Sur and also J'onn J'onzz. - Martian Manhunter Vol. 2 #21
Abin Sur died a few years after their confrontation, in events unrelated to Tybalt Bak'sar. He gave his power ring to Hal Jordan of Earth, a test pilot who would help found the Justice League of America with J'onn J'onnz and other heroes.
Tybalt Bak'sar has not been heard from since his confrontation with J'onnz and the Ungaran Green Lantern, but it can be assumed he will return.
The Weaponers of Qward would go on to choose other agents, such as the renegade Green Lantern Sinestro, the vengeance driven Fatality, and their latest choice, Alexander Nero.

GLCWP NOTE
The story solicited by DC for Martian Manhunter Vol. 2 #21 described J'onn J'onnz being caught in a battle between two power ring wielding foes. Obviously this was changed, but I wonder what else, if anything, had been changed.
