OVERVIEW
Best known as the homeworld of Element Lad of the Legion of Super-Heroes, the remainder of the planet's population suffered a tragic fate.
HISTORY
The planet Trom features dangerously high radiation levels though a single radiation-free valley does exist on the planet. A humanoid race developed in the valley or was possibly transplanted there millennia ago. Over many generations the Trommites evolved a tolerance for the higher background radiation levels of their planet and eventually developed the ability to transmute the elements. A formidable power, the Trommites had to exercise tremendous control lest they inadvertently hurt themselves or others with the use of their transmutation abilities.
With a notable exception, Dagon-Ra, a 20th century villain who fought Captain Comet and the L.E.G.I.O.N., the Trommites remained on their world and developed into a highly spiritual society seeing their powers as a gift.
This ended in the late 30th/early 31st Century when the pirate Roxxas learned of their powers. When they refused to use their powers for him, Roxxas had the small population slaughtered. The sole survivor, Jan Arrah, escaped and helped the Legion of Super-Heroes bring "Roxxas the Butcher" to justice. Jan joined the Legion under the name Element Lad and took the role of caretaker of his homeworld.
