HISTORY
The canine friend and sidekick of 1940s hero Manhunter (Dan Richards) was in reality an android created by the alien Manhunters organization, to keep an eye on Richards, since they thought he may be too idealistic for their dark agenda to conquer the planet. In his entire career, Richards did not know the truth behind his 'friend'. Thor was destroyed in recent years, during the Manhunters' 'Millennium' invasion.
After the original was destroyed, Richards kept another dog, a German Shepard mix, and also called him Thor.
Recently, Iron Munro gave his great-grandson a similarly disguised robot dog. Whether it is the original reprogrammed and repaired or a different robot has not been disclosed.
