HISTORY

Will Payton lived a normal life in Arizona until he was hit by a beam of cosmic energy from outer space. As a result, he gained the powers of strength, flight, invulnerability, shape-shifting, and the ability to fire energy bolts. As Starman, he had a short career as a super-hero, fighting menaces like the Power Elite, Bolt, Doctor Polaris, and Eclipso, the latter of which apparently became his death.

Recently, it was revealed that Payton had survived. Or at least the man who thought he was Payton had survived. An alien being named M'ntorr claims that the real Will Payton died when he was hit by the energy beam that created Starman, and that Payton's body and memories were actually imbued with the "life essence" of Prince Gavyn. After having been imprisoned on Prince Gavyn's Throneworld for months, Payton (as Gavyn), Starman III and VII, and other heroes overthrew the Throneworld government, led by rogue security officer Jediah Rikane. Although the hero is still not completely sure whether he is the real Will Payton or not, he has agreed to rule the Throneworld empire as Prince Gavyn for the time being. Will's sister Jayne is the love of Jack Knight, Starman VII.
