Comment(s):

This gives the year that Danny Maddox ended up in a Russian prison camp as the middle of 1973 as a result of his encounter with Travis Morgan. However, the Warlord series states that Travis Morgan ended up in Skartartis on June 16, 1969, so either Maddox spent four years in other prisons or the date given in this story is wrong.

Comment(s):

This story takes place over a period from early December 1939 through January 1, 1940. In Sandman Mystery Theatre this is moved up to 1938/1939. The letter this story is based on is dated September 14, 1985 (the year is topical in relation to the date the comic is printed), but the letter is written shortly before or directly after the Crisis on Infinite Earths.
This story is based on the story from Adventure Comics #48 by Ken Fitch and Bernard Baily. Parts of this story is retold with minor differing details in Sandman Mystery Theatre #29- #32. In the retelling in Sandman Mystery Theatre, it is Johnny Kenton's wife who writes the letter asking for help.
