HISTORY
When the world of Dorag was threatened by invasion by the Khund Empire, the self-proclaimed placid Doragians needed to look outside themselves to match the Khund's aggression. To accomplish this, Science Minister Saraar created the "infektikon," a device to transmit a psi-virus to leech "evil" and deliver it to Saraar in shadow form. Unfortunately for the victims of the virus, the shadows could only separate from the host bodies by slaying them first.
The Doragians tried to leech this "evil" from the Khunds, thereby eliminating the Khund threat, but could not get past the Khund defenses. Following an old interplanetary adage: "acquire food from a farmer, work from a slave and corruption from a human," Science Minister Saraar turned the infektikon upon planet Earth.
The purple beam struck an armed skyjacker on Pan-Trans Flight 422, in route to Coast City. The evil force in the skyjacker separated itself from the host body, making him docile. Seconds after the skyjacker released his hostage, Pan-Trans pilot Dirk Boostrom, the shadow form took the skyjacker's gun and turned it on him, killing him.
Sometime after Flight 422 landed in Coast City, Boostrom attended a party at Ferris Aircraft. A shadow form separated from Boostrom and would have killed him were it not for the timely arrival of Green Lantern Hal Jordan and Barry Allen, the Flash.
Saraar spoke through the shadow, warning Earth's heroes they were facing a threat beyond their abilities. Green Lantern realized there was something on the other side of the shadowform and leaped into it, followed by the Flash. They were instantly transported to Dorag where Saraar trapped them in a constrictor, an energy weapon which threatened to crush them to death. Saraar explained his plan to the heroes, gloating about his impending success.
While Saraar was absorbing the evil energy from Earth, the Flash and Green Lantern combined their powers to escape. Using the power ring, Green Lantern changed the constrictor's molecular structure, creating a pattern through which the Flash could vibrate the two of them through. Once free, they destroyed Saraar's lab.
The Science Minister was angered by this as they had doomed his world but they would still be unable to save their own from the shadow plague. They returned to Earth to destroy the shadowform of Dirk Boostrom and learned of the flight he piloted. From there, the Flash got a list of all the passengers on the flight.
The two heroes traversed Coast City, preventing the numerous shadowforms from killing their hosts like the skyjacker had. Their task completed, they were attacked by shadow versions of themselves. In saving others in Coast City they too had been exposed to the plague.
The Flash and Green Lantern found themselves unable to draw upon the aggression needed to defeat their shadow selves and retreated into the desert. Green Lantern was able to contain their shadows in a constrictor as they had been ensnared on Dorag. Though the shadows had their same powers which would allowed them to escape, they did not have the ability to cooperate to make that attempt. The constrictor reduced the shadows to nothing and the heroes returned to full strength.
Jordan reported the incident to his masters, the Guardians of the Universe, which would insure the Green Lantern Corps would monitor Saraar as well as look into the Khund situation. Science Minister Saraar has not been heard from since. -Flash & Green Lantern: The Brave and the Bold #1
