HISTORY

The villain known as Professor Ojo was the son of an assistant in an early atomic energy facility. Poor safety standards exposed Manuel Ojo to massive doses of hard radiation. His son was born without eyes and Manuel Ojo died sometime later from radiation poisioning.

Despite his blindness, the youth had tremendous success in school. With his genius he eventually received a doctorate from a major university. Devoting himself to research, Ojo created an artificial sight device but kept his findings to himself. He disappeared soon afterwards. - Green Lantern Vol. 2 #118

Professor Ojo eventually became associated with the League of Assassins, a part of a larger criminal organization headed by Ra's al Ghul. Ojo's insane hatred of atomic energy led him to steal an atomic submarine. He came into conflict with G.O.O.D. (Global Organization of Organized Defense) operatives Richard Dragon and Benjamin Turner. The two martial artists helped recover the stolen submarine. - Richard Dragon, Kung-Fu Fighter #16, Green Lantern Vol. 2 #118

Ojo later captured and brainwashed Benjamin Turner into forgetting his past and becoming the assassin known as the Bronze Tiger. He hired Turner out for a short time before the Bronze Tiger fought Batman. - Who's Who '85 #19

Months later, from his arctic retreat, Ojo turned his attention to Star City. He placed a hovering eye over the city which caught the interest of Green Arrow. Assuming the hovering eye was put there for malevolent purposes, the archer shot a few arrows towards the eye to no effect. Green Lantern Hal Jordan was unable to assist Green Arrow. Difficulties with his power ring prevented Jordan from investigating the floating eye.

A few hours later, Green Arrow joined with Jordan's temporary replacement as Green Lantern, Guy Gardner, in his attack on the eye. Professor Ojo retaliated by firing a laser blast at the archer. In another patrol of the city, Gardner would destroy the floating eye. - Green Lantern Vol. 2 #116

Professor Ojo had other eyes to spy with. One such eye attacked Green Lantern and Green Arrow in Gotham City's Arkham Asylum. Jordan attempted to blast the eye, but the orb casted a field of total darkness. Jordan tried once more to hit the eye, but found he had been duped. A weapon placed outside the darkness field had decoyed him while the eye continued on its mission. The eye brought Alexander Tuttle, the Crumbler, with it.

Green Arrow returned to Star City to resume his search for the eye and the Crumbler. A clerk at an optometrist's store raised his suspicions. The emerald archer "convinced" the clerk to lead him to the basement hideout of Professor Ojo.

The villain planned for Green Arrow's arrival with a battery of radiation lamps set to blind the archer by working directly on his optic nerves. Half a dozen arrows took out the threat.

A brief skirmish with Ojo and the Crumbler left Green Arrow at their mercy but Green Lantern arrived to save his friend's life. Professor Ojo once more used his advanced technology to create "mega-darkness" in the room and the villains made good their escape. - Green Lantern Vol. 2 #117

Professor Ojo upgraded the Crumbler's power glove but was angered his ally used the glove for personal revenge. The Crumbler had attempted to kill his father but was stopped by Green Lantern. Professor Ojo had other plans for the Crumbler.

The villains planned to destroy the atomic power plant built by the Crumbler's father. Alexander Tuttle had hated his father for years because of his father's refusual to recognize his son as a person. Professor Ojo wished to show the world the devastating effect of radiation by slaughtering millions when the radioactive materials were released from the plant.

The Crumbler used the glove to cut through the earth under the power plant. There, under the direction of Ojo, the Crumbler disintegrated a large storage container for radioactive materials. The wind carried a cloud of radioactive gases but Ojo hadn't counted on Green Lantern's involvement. The ring wielder gathered the radioactive gases and thereby saved the population for hundreds of miles around. Professor Ojo tried to make yet another escape but was captured by Green Arrow. - Green Lantern Vol. 2 #118

The current activities of Professor Ojo has yet to be revealed.
