HISTORY
According to Chinese legend, Nao Yut was the illegitimate son of a princess. The princess' mother ordered the newborn baby to be left in the woods to keep the adultery a secret, but the prince eventually found the boy in the woods, nursing on a tiger's nipples. The princess and her mother were banished, but the prince adopted the child and named him "Nao Yu T'u" – "suckled by a tigress".
Nao's vengeful grandmother made a deal with the forces of darkness and killed the prince with black magic. Then she aimed to do the same with Nao Yut, setting six demons on him, but they were all trapped in pieces of armor by Nao's friend, the Blacksmith. When Nao Yut encountered his evil grandmother, he learned that she was protected by magic so that no man could harm her. But Nao had the ability to turn himself into a tiger, as which he bit the witch to death. However, her years of hatred had curdled her blood into poison, which killed Nao and trapped his soul between the mortal world and the afterlife.
In modern times, Tycho Bray grew fascinated with the legend. A blind man, Tycho hoped that reviving Nao Yut would give him his sight back. The first attempt failed, meeting resistance from the Doom Patrol, but after tracking down the actual mummified body of Nao Yut, Tycho restored the spirit and helped it to the afterlife. In return, Tycho was promised a new soul and a set of eyes. But the spirit of Nao had lied to him all along, disappearing into the next world and leaving a sobbing, blind Tycho behind.
