OVERVIEW

After a war cost him his love, the Bruce Wayne of Earth -12 claimed the corrupting power of the helmet of Ares as his own, becoming The Merciless. He was chosen by The Batman Who Laughs to serve Barbatos as one of his Dark Knights.

HISTORY

After the Ares of Earth -12 created a helmet that multiplied his powers, Batman and Wonder Woman fight a two year war against him. The final battle began, and cost Wonder Woman her life. Enraged at this, Batman wears the helmet and kills Ares, ending the war by showing no mercy. He wanted and planned to stop there, but the helmet changed him and corrupted him. He went after the Amazonians of Earth -12, and began a three day slaughter on Themyscira. He ordered the ferryman of River Styx to take the coins of the Amazonians seeking passage into the afterlife. He melted the coins down and forged a giant golden drachma (currency of ancient Greece) to resemble the famous giant penny in the Batcave. Inside the drachma were the spirits of the slayed Amazonians. He was laying siege on Olympus when he was approached by The Batman Who Laughs. He tells Bruce that his world is about to be destroyed in a matter of minutes and that the only way to survive is to serve his master, Barbatos. Bruce was convinced on joining him to fight a bigger war, him and the other Dark Knights of the Dark Multiverse were released into Earth-0.

POWERS AND WEAPONS

Wielding the helmet of Ares, Bruce Wayne gains superhuman strength and great invincibility. He is fueled by destruction and war, and by fighting enemies becomes stronger.
