OVERVIEW
Kingu was an ancient Mesopotamian deity who resurfaced briefly during the so-called 'War of the Gods', seeking the reality-changing artefacts known as the Tablets of Destiny.
HISTORY
In ancient Mesopotamian mythology, Kingu was the champion and the second husband of Tiamat the demon mother. He is said to have been slain in battle with the younger god Marduk and his blood was used in the creation of man.
It is often hard to separate facts from myth, but it has been revealed that many of the gods worshipped in Mesopotamia (Sumer, Babylon, etc) were actually renegade Oans, the same race that once created the Green Lantern Corps. Whether Kingu was of Oan or Mesopotamian descent remains unknown.
During the modern-day events dubbed the 'War of the Gods', Kingu and a monstrous version of Tiamat resurfaced outside Atlantis in search of the Tablets of Destiny, actively seeking to bring about the end of the world. Aquaman and Power Girl intervened, but Kingu and Tiamat faded away as they were released from the sorceress Circe’s thrall.
POWERS AND WEAPONS
Tiamat bestowed Anu’s Tablets of Destiny upon Kingu, thus enabling him to affect reality through sheer willpower. The limitations of the tablets (if any) have yet to be determined. How Tiamat first came into possession of these tablets is not known, but for the last few thousand years, they have been buried underwater not far from Atlantis.
