Synopsis: - The JLA confront the new Spectre, but find someone other than the Hal Jordan they were expecting. Zauriel realizes that each of them is seeing something other than the truth, and that this is the way it has to be for the time being. The Spectre proceeds to peer into the souls and psyches of the Justice Leaguers, showing them that even the most noble of people have darkness within them. Hal Jordan himself knows this to be true but does not see this as a basis for universal judgement.
- Finally, the Martian Manhunter takes them inside a confused and dangerous soul, at the heart of which is found an area of peace and light - the soul of the Joker. This shows the Spectre much more than he is quite prepared to deal with, and he departs, leaving those behind him unsure of his true identity.
