HISTORY

An interstellar technology cult, the "sacred order" known as the Hand of Krona led by Bajoc Veyl worshiped the ancient Maltusian scientist Krona. The Kronans believed Krona's witnessing the "hand of creation" at the dawn of time proved one person could change reality.

Though Krona's actions may have doomed reality, the Kronans cited the resulting formation of the Guardians of the Universe and their Green Lantern Corps as forces that brought order and unification to countless worlds and civilizations throughout the universe. Though the Green Lantern Corps and other organizations such as the Omega Men, the L.E.G.I.O.N. and the Darkstars tried to bring peace, they ultimately failed, leaving a power vacuum many others tried to fill. The Hand of Krona believed they could unite the universe through technology.

Bajoc Veyl's followers came from many worlds including Xudar, Barrio III, Sputa, and even the doomed planet Bolovax Vik. Unfortunately for some worlds, the Hand of Krona would upgrade their worlds whether the natives wanted them to or not. These upgrades sometimes resulted in the world's destruction, considered by the Hand of Krona to be the cost of progress.

The Hand of Krona arrived on Earth and immediately began upgrading the planet's technology. Starting at the Millstone Nuclear Power Plant in Waterford, Connecticut, a forty square mile area was transformed. Augmented lightning increased the power of the nuclear reactors. The energy was used to make plant forms large enough to create organic cities. Technokinesis fields transformed wildlife into cybernetic giants. Even some boy scouts visiting the power plant were made into cyborg command drones for Bajoc Veyl.

The JLA was quick to respond to the phenomenon. Green Lantern Kyle Rayner, Batman and Superman arrived, and the last Green Lantern's arrival was of particular interest to Veyl. The induction of the universe's last Green Lantern would be seen as an important symbol to the rest of the galaxy and Veyl would spare Earth if the Green Lantern would join them.

The JLA saw things differently and Veyl had to suppress them, sending his drones after Batman while the cybernetic animals attacked Superman. When Green Lantern refused the Kronans' offer, Veyl tried to use an energy construct, the "Hand of Krona" to strike down the ring wielder. The hand was promptly destroyed by Superman.

Inside the reactor, Batman had managed to convince the altered boy scouts to shut down the augmented lightning. Once this was done, plant and animal life reverted to normal. The members of the Hand of Krona teleported away. Though it appeared they were unsuccessful on Earth, Veyl believed he had sown a seed of doubt in Green Lantern's mind. The Hand of Krona has not been seen since.

GLCWP NOTE

Though in all likelihood the Hand of Krona was a throwaway idea, I'd be interested in seeing a follow-up.
