HISTORY
One of the most powerful members of the Justice League of America, Green Lantern Guy Gardner was nonetheless quickly defeated by a new foe. The alien tyrant Mongul first arrived on Earth feigning peace, but he ensnared the Green Lantern in a Black Mercy plant, blasting Manhunter (secretly J'onn J'onnz) with a neural disruptor and decapitating the Clock.
Mongul took the name Khouriga Edjem and became leader of the nation of Kamburu. As Green Lantern was under the thrall of the Black Mercy, his power ring unleashed torrents of energy which fueled the entire nation. Using his alien technology, Khouriga Edjem was able to turn Kamburu into a paradise. He recruited superpowered agents to make terrorist strikes and was able to secretly guide policy in the United States.
For ten years tensions grew as the United States faced massive crop failures secretly engineered by Kamburu. J'onn J'onnz had been slowly dissipating in the Nevada desert. Green Lantern was oblivious to it all, trapped in the dreamlike state due to the Black Mercy. Only malnutrition due to his captors' neglect led to intermittent blackouts in Kamburu.
J'onnz had used what powers he could muster to contact former Leaguer Destiny, but it left her believing she had developed precognition. In fact, J'onnz was mentally giving her information about Mongul's plans but to her and others it appeared she was losing her mind.

As a Green Lantern, Guy Gardner possessed a power ring. As this Guy Gardner was from an alternate universe, it is not know if a power battery was also required.
