ENGINE CITY | ATLAS |
HISTORY
The land where Coast City, destroyed by the Cyborg Superman and Mongul, once stood, and where a giant rocket engine was built to propel Earth out of its orbit and turn it into a new Warworld. The freshly resurrected Superman, with a team composed of Supergirl, Steel (III) and Superboy, later joined by the Eradicator and Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) stopped the engine and the two would-be tyrants. The remaining industrial nightmare was later investigated by the Justice League but the covert actions of Lex Luthor, who hoped to collect some of the Kryptonite that powered the engine, weakened its structure and caused it to sink into the Pacific Ocean.
Aquaman later alerted the surface of the environmental danger it posed for the sea life. The remains of Engine City were leaking dangerous chemicals into the Pacific Ocean and those elements spawned the villain named Kosnor. Aquaman and Superman combined forces to defeat him. Meanwhile, the desert location of Coast City was turned into a memorial by Earth's heroes. Later, this emplacement allowed the alien floating city of Haven to settle on Earth.
