OVERVIEW
Powered through an amulet and helmet by the Lord of Order named Nabu, Kent Nelson became one of the most powerful heroes of the Golden Age.
HISTORY
In 1940, noted archaeologist Sven Nelson took his young son, Kent with him on an dig in the area formerly known as the Valley of Ur, hoping to complete his work before the brewing world war would make it impossible to continue.
Acting alone, he entered the tomb of Nabu, a great wizard of the Egyptian era of empire. While the elder Nelson was investigating hieroglyphics, his 12 year old son accidentally tripped the booby trap that ended his father's life by poison gas and awakened Nabu. Seeing the young orphan boy as a vessel to continue his mission for the Lords of Order, he took young Kent to a hidden dimension and trained him in the ways of the mystic arts. Rapidly accelerating his aging and skills, in a matter of days Kent was now a young man. His work at an end, he returned Kent's memories of his father's death and Nabu's role. Shooting him with a powerful eldrich bolt, he sundered Nabu's physical body and he revealed his plan of Kent taking his place as the agent of the Lords of Order on this plane. Nabu revealed his tools, such as the Helm of Nabu, the Amulet of Anubis and the Cloak of Healing as his weapons along with his mystical abilities.
However, fate was still working to finish the job Nabu had begun. As a young American college student named Inza Cramer was being captured by the villainous sorcerer Wotan, Kent Nelson rescued her and vanquished Wotan, taking the name of Doctor Fate. Feeling attracted to Inza, he kept tabs on her when she returned to America, saving her from a vengeful Wotan. Cramer became Fate's link to the world, summoning him to foil mystical plots and those that would prey on the weaker.
