HISTORY
Hal Jordan was sent by the Guardians of the Universe to locate Davo Yull after the Green Lantern of Pharma had failed to report to Oa.

Jordan first went to see Yull's wife, who had last seen her husband before he went off to stop deadly ground quakes which had originated in the Misty Sea.
Jordan found Davo Yull, who had been weakened by several days without food or water. Yull had been stopped by a pulsator, a weapon created by Thraxon the Powerful, a warrior bent on conquering Pharma. The pulsator would drain the power rings of any Green Lanterns in proximity.
Utilizing a Pharman sea creature as a shield, Jordan managed to destroy the pulsator. He defeated Thraxon, and rescued Davo Yull. - Green_Lantern Vol. 2 #50/2
The next time Jordan heard of Davo Yull, it was less fortunate. A group of cosmic criminals had escaped captivity on the Guardians' Prison Planet, and launched an attempt to destroy the Corps. During the event known as the Blackest Night, black rings desecrated the Crypts. The ring placed itself upon Davo Yull's remains, downloaded all of his memories and created a duplicate of his body that rose from the grave as a member of the Black Lantern Corps. - Blackest Night #1
