HISTORY
The centaurs are creatures with the upper body of a man on the legs of a horse. According to Greek legend, they are the offspring of Ixion the Assassin and the goddess Hera (in the form of a cloud), but this has yet to be confirmed. Followers of the wine god Dionysus, the centaurs were generally borish and decadent creatures who lived in the vincinity of Mount Pelion in Thessaly, ancient Greece.
Although centaurs often tend to be male, there have been female members of the species, sometimes referred to as centauresses or centaurettes. Virtually all of the centaurs on Earth were slain by Heracles, with the exception of the wise and noble Chiron, who seems to be immortal.
There are centaurs on other worlds as well, for instance in the dimension of Pytharia, where they are known as the Thlayra. Claw the Unconquered once encountered and killed Elathia, a female member of the Thlayra. Centaurs also exist in Skartaris. There is also a colony of centaurs on a planet orbiting the star Alpha Centauri. The Metal Men fought a nameless centaur from who had been exiled to that planet by Jove many years ago.
During World War II, British Major Terrence Brooke was magically transformed to a centaur by the sorceress Circe, which enabled him to stop a German attack. Technically, Brooke was not turned into a real centaur but a Bestiamorph.
POWERS AND WEAPONS
The Centaurs have the stamina, speed and strength of a horse and the mental capacities of a human. They are said to be excellent archers.
