HISTORY

When the Legion of Super-Heroes (Earth-247) were stranded in the 20th century, Brainiac 5 was desperately looking for a way to return the Legionnaires to their proper era with only the limited technology at his disposal. Using the Responsometer of Veridium, a Mother Box provided by Metron and a standart Legion Omnicom, Brainiac 5 assembled a super-computer and managed to open a doorway through time. The powerful AI's awareness, however, soon began to expand. Self-aware, able to rearrange matter and access any data, C.O.M.P.U.T.O. started running amok. More powerful with each passing moment, the AI took over one of Triad's bodies and possessed Cosmic Boy. The JLA and Young Justice joined the Legionnaires in the struggle against C.O.M.P.U.T.O. but the computer tyrant secretly had a hold on the over 2 selves of Triad. Only the timely arrival of the rest of the Legionnaires from the year 2998, and the illusion abilities of Sensor, managed to distract C.O.M.P.U.T.O. long enough for Earth's heroes to infect its programming with a virus. The threat repelled, the Legion finally returned to the 30th century.

C.O.M.P.U.T.O. survived in energy form. For years the super-AI stayed out of human reach. After the "Great Shutdown" that occured in the 25th century, when the Metallo Virus forced the robots to voluntarily shut their conciousness off, C.O.M.P.U.T.O. settled on a distant world and offered shelter to every machine, sending emissaries throughout the universe to reawaken robots. For centuries, the Machinekind Heaven of Robotica was considered a legend, until its first contact with the Legion during a mission in space. Some months later, Robotica had already laid waste of the planet Xanthu and was headed toward Earth. The planet's protective field was raised and the Legion sent alongside the military to stop the Robotican advance in space. Earth's forces however, never had a chance to fire a single blow as the Robotican fleet apparently blew itself up on their approch. In fact, transformed into energy, the Robots downloaded themselves to the ground, right under the shield. In a matter of seconds they had conquered the whole of Earth. Stranded on Earth, Brainiac 5 was captured and presented to Mister Venge who revealed himself as C.O.M.P.U.T.O.
