HISTORY
Johnny Lamonica was a handsome hitman who was hired to kill mob boss Black Mask and donned an appropriately strange costume in order to join his gang, calling himself Black Spider, the name originated by the first Spider, Eric Needham. LaMonica was intercepted twice by the Batman, once when he attempted to kill a guest at a costumed ball at Wayne Manor, and once when he tried to kill Black Mask. The latter confrontation left his face covered in a web of ugly scars, and LaMonica was incarcerated.
In the midst of the recent gang war in Gotham City, LaMonica opened fire on some police detectives and was killed in self-defense by Crispus Allen, a case that almost led to the detective's suspension from the police force.
LaMonica was succeeded by the third Black Spider (Derrick Coe). - Birds of Prey #87
