Synopsis:

A mysterious man named Whisper is killing mob bosses and leaving poetic calling cards at the scene. One boss named Ottavio begs Batman to stop him, claiming the bosses killed Whisper 20 years ago and yet he is back for revenge. Batman refuses. He is still troubled by dreams of his old boarding school, linked with cathedrals and death. He tells Alfred how he thought he once saw the decapitated head of a schoolfriend in the office of a mean spirited teacher there, a Mr Winchester, who apparently had no shadow. He had dismissed it as his own overactive childish imagination, but could Mr Winchester be back - as Mr Whisper? Batman comes to see Ottavio but he is dead from poisoned wine, and Mr Whisper is there. Batman and Whisper each realise who the other really is, but after a fight Whisper falls off the roof - but does not die.
