OVERVIEW

Anubis an Egyptian death god with a jackal's head who passes judgment on the dead.

HISTORY

Anubis an Egyptian death god with a jackal's head who passes judgment on the dead. He is also believed to be a Lord of Chaos. While popularly known as the son of the death god Osiris, other accounts have Anubis mummifying the body of the dead Osiris, which would make him a much older god.

In 2,030 B.C., Anubis awarded the mad priest Khalis with the Amulet of Anubis, which was utilized for enslaving the people of Egypt and battling Nabu, a Lord of Order. Nabu had Khalis mummified alive, took the amulet as his own and later passed it on to the modern-day supernatural hero Dr. Fate. With his followers decimated, Anubis withdrew from the world, only to be reawakened in modern times by the newly released Khalis. However, Anubis no longer had any recollection of the priest. It may have been the millennia that had passed, or maybe the power loss due to no longer being worshipped, but Anubis did not recognize Khalis and dismissed him as a "zealous fool".

Since then, Anubis has accompanied Bast and Bes to the Dreaming in order to barter for the keys to Hell, when these were in the possession of the Dream Lord Morpheus. And quite fittingly, Anubis attended the funeral of Dream as well.
