HISTORY

Anaïs Arcane was a woman from a Balkan nation in the early 20th century. When her husband Josip was drafted into the first World War, she took her children Aniela and Gregori to Germany and the estate of her cousin Hans von Hammer (a.k.a. Enemy Ace). They were later joined by Anaïs' oldest son Anton, and a time-lost Swamp Thing (III). Realising that Anton was insane and evil and used occult forces to gain power, Anaïs betrayed her son to save the life of Swamp Thing. When they got the message that Josip had died in the war, the family returned to Castle Arcane.

Anton would grow up to be a sorcerer and demon, Gregori would end his days as the Patchwork Man (I), and his daughter Abigail (looking exactly like her grandmother Anaïs) is now the girlfriend of the Swamp Thing.
