HISTORY
Billions of years ago, the childhood of Z'Kran Z'Rann was shattered by the brutal murder of his family at the hands of raiders. One struck him with a blow that slashed his face, and the raiders, disappointed by the slim bounty taken during the raid, did not bother looking for the child. A decade later, Z'Kran Z'Rann, driven by years of simmering vengeance, finally tracked down his family's killers. Though masked, he revealed his scarred visage to the last surviving raider, ensuring justice was done and his vengeance was absolute; no one had survived his wrath.

With this bloody chapter closed, an unexpected new one began. An emerald power ring appeared before him, offering Z'Kran Z'Rann an unexpected future.[1]
The power ring brought him to Earth where he encountered others similarly chosen. These nascent ring wielders soon learned the power's potential and its dangers when Jan-Al of Krypton tragically lost control, resulting in her self-immolation. [2]Though they received training from the time-displaced Green Lanterns Jessica Cruz and Simon Baz, this initial group struggled with internal conflict and lacked a unified purpose.
They failed to recognize the urgency of the threat posed by Volthoom, the very reason they had been granted the rings, and were eager to pursue their individual paths. However, witnessing the devastating destruction of the planet Zoron served as a stark wake-up call, galvanizing the ring wielders around a shared sense of duty.[3]

The Lanterns confronted Volthoom on Maltus in a brutal and desperate battle. Calleen, Alitha, and Brill quickly fell.[4] Driven by his past, Z'Kran Z'Rann believed he was dispensing justice. Yet, in the midst of the chaos, his ring revealed the truth within Volthoom's heart, a revelation that surprised him deeply. Volthoom was not simply malevolent but consumed by chaos and suffering from the emotional spectrum, in need of aid rather than annihilation. Caught off guard by this unexpected insight, Z'Kran Z'Rann was blasted with Volthoom's raw rage energy, inflicting a mortal wound.

Some time later, after Volthoom's eventual defeat, Z'Kran Z'Rann's remains, along with those of his fallen comrades, were interred with honor in the Vault of Shadows.[5]
