OVERVIEW
King Uther Pendragon was a warlord who unified the warring kingdoms of Britain in the 6th century, paving the way for his legendary son, King Arthur.
HISTORY
The early history of the British Isles was steeped in conflict and war. After the fall of the Roman empire, Britain was splintered into many small and proud kingdoms. Behind the scenes, the wizard Merlin manipulated events in order to fulfill his prophecy of the One King. Two mighty warlords emerged: Gorlois the Red-Beak, Duke of Cornwall, and Uther the Pendragon, Prince of Britannia. As they soon found out that they were too evenly matched, the warlords agreed to an uneasy truce. It soon became obvious that Uther had difficulties concealing his lust for Gorlois' wife Igraine. Uther even rejected the seductive sorcress Morgana Inwudu (later known as Morgaine Le Fey), which made him her eternal enemy. Not being able to bear Uther's leering eyes, Gorlois finally terminated the armistice and once again declared war upon Uther.
As the war raged on, Morgana Inwudu cast a spell on glamour upon herself and took the place of Gorlois' and Igraine's second daughter to twarth any attempt by Uther to abduct or gain access to Igraine. The wizard Merlin then bestowed a glamour upon Uther so that he could take on the guise of Gorlois and make love to Igraine. The fruit of this union was Arthur, the once and future king.
