HISTORY

For the history of the Thought-Beasts see the profile on Krypton (planet)

NOTE

A large animal native to the Scarlet Jungle on Krypton, the Thought-Beast possessed an unusual biological feature. The thoughts of the creature would appear on a large "mind-screen" above its eyes. Presumably, this was used as an instinctual, psychological attack meant to unnerve its prey as the creature would project an image of it eating the subject.

At least one Thought-Beast had survived the destruction of Krypton, having been taken earlier as part of an unidentified alien species' zoological expedition. The aliens had not realized the creature would gain super powers in the presence of a yellow sun and it escaped captivity, making its way to Earth and confronting Superboy. The Teen of Steel relocated the Thought-Beast to an asteroid he had changed to resemble the Scarlet Jungle.

Editor's note - A precursor to the Thought-Beasts first appeared in Superboy Vol. 1 #22 (October-November 1952): The Noah's Ark from Space!" by Edmond Hamilton and John Sikela. This orange skinned creature had a small mind-screen on its forehead rather than the larger mind-screen on the pronounced frill of the Thought-Beasts.
