HISTORY

Linus Powell was a child prodigy who mastered the properties of light at a young age. After a brief stint at NASA, Linus proved the possibility of faster-than-light travel with the Powell Unified Theory of Light.

Known then as "the man who cracked the light barrier", he planned to put his theories to the test in a laboratory in the center of Utah's Great Salt Lake. There, he developed Powell's Pile, a nuclear fusion reactor - except that it had one fatal flaw - that it required one of Eclipso's black diamonds as a damper.

Linus had defenses based on sunlight that could protect against Eclipso, but not against Angon, who Eclipso had manipulated into destroying Linus' lab. Linus was attacked by Angon, and was changing into sand as the lab exploded. This changed him into one of the New Bloods, and he took the name Prism.

As Prism, Linus was a silicon-based lifeform, able to manipulate light from simple sunbeams, through infrared and even create illusions of himself. With the help of stuntman Johnny Peril, and fellow New Bloods Anima, Edge, Loose Cannon, Nightblade and Sparx, Prism was able to defeat an Eclipso (who had possessed Angon for a time after the destruction of Powell's Pile).

Prism also joined many New Bloods and a group of earth's heroes in defeating the Bloodlines Aliens, including the Taker. Soon after that, Prism worked with another group of earth's heroes who were instrumental in driving Eclipso from the earth. He also was called to Blood Pack headquarters when the Quorum had tried to create their own Taker clone, and control all the New Bloods.
