HISTORY

The first recorded whereabouts of the man known as the O-Sensei are from 1895 Manchuria where a Japanese army captain atoned for his men killing a helpless Chinese captive. In memory of the victim, the captain began studying and practicing the ancient arts and disciplines.

Almost 100 years later, the O-Sensei, as he was now called, took petty criminals Richard Dragon and Ben Turner under his wing, making them two of the greatest martial artists in the world. After declaring that there was nothing more he could teach them, the O-Sensei left the two in the service of the law-keeping organization called G.O.O.D.

The O-Sensei stayed out of the spotlight, even though Richard would seek his assistance on occasion. Eventually, more than 150 years old, the O-Sensei decided that his life should end. With Lady Shiva by his side, he asked the Batman, Green Arrow and the Question to help him return to his homeland of Japan, thus honoring a vow he had made to his wife decades ago – to let his bones rest beside hers. In the end, fate intervened in the form of a typhoon that washed the O-Sensei from his boat. Shortly afterwards, Lady Shiva learned that his wife had been lost at sea decades ago. Thus, the O-Sensei had fulfilled his vow.
