HISTORY

A rogue American government agency who sought to reclaim all the broken pieces of the "American Talisman" – the vessel of the Spirit of America and an instrument in the creation of American heroes such as Uncle Sam (I-III) and the Minuteman (I). The National Interest wanted to create their own American champion, and even retrieved the legendary Spear of Destiny to prevent the Spectre (I) from interfering. However, other parties reassembled the American Talisman and created a new incarnation of the Spirit of America called the Patriot (II) (later Uncle Sam IV).

The Patriot and Spectre joined forces against the National Interest and defeated them as well as the arcane power behind them – the evil American Scream. Members of the National Interest included: Dwayne Hawke, Shadrack, Amisted, Duchloss, and Sorcerer (the latter an alien mechanoid with a human mind who atoned for his sins by providing the body for the Patriot).
