HISTORY

Mooney Island was the site of a top secret military installation, under the command of General Daniel Webster Derwent. The Mooney Island Lighthouse was the command center of the Laser Defense System (LDS) which utilized an orbiting satellite to prevent laser attacks from space. The system instead had become a threat to the United States when it was taken over by the Parasite. At the Pentagon's request, the LDS was destroyed by Superman and the facility was to be decommissioned.

The island's exact location has yet to be confirmed, however it is within 25 to 200 miles off the coast of Metropolis, reachable by helicopter.

One end of the island features an amusement park and pier.
