Synopsis: - Gathered at the aegean home of Malinka Theonides, the Martian renegades are unable to continue with their normal lives until they have destroyed the Manhunter. J'onn, meanwhile, descends into the well of souls to meet with the spirits of his ancestors, who temporarily remove his psionic abilities, making him mentally undetectable to the renegades. Shortly later, the renegades find themselves under attack; using his invisibility and other non-psionic powers, J'onn is able to scare, confuse and scatter them. Mahoud, a speedster, heads for the jetty, but J'onn intercepts him and holds him underwater where his speed is useless. Alonso de Guzman attempts to take over the body of Malinka's mother, but discovers that he is trying to take over J'onn; Stolz tries to escape by helicopter, but J'onn destroys it. The Manhunter then cuts the flow of electricity, which renders Answorthy's powers useless: the renegade dives off the cliffs into the sea. This leaves just one renegade, who had once been J'ahrl J'onzz' lover. Once defeated, she and the others (except Answorthy) awake in the well of souls, where they are judged by J'onn's ancestors: they are to be forced to live out their lives as the humans they pretend to be, with no memory of their true identity or psionic abilities.
- All, however, are unaware that the renegade Answorthy (Ch'all Ch'andrum) survives, having taken over the body of a shark after his plunge into the sea.
