HISTORY

Lin Canar's story was told to some neophyte Green Lanterns by their trainer, Kilowog of Bolovax Vik.

A member of the Research Circle, Lin Canar used his lab equipment to study a naturally occuring energy phenomenon when the experiment went critical. Though he should have died, the energy and chemicals had given tremendous strength.

A noble being, Canar wished to use his powers to help others. His worthy character attracted the notice of an alien Green Lantern who wished to bestow the emerald power ring to the Fluvian scientist.

Demonstrating his great strength, Lin Canar recommended the Green Lantern should find another Fluvian to join the Corps. Canar could help his people with his own incredible power. The Green Lantern searched once more until he found Dob Zagil, a teacher. After Zagil had been trained, the alien Green Lantern left the water world behind and returned to the stars.

On Fluvian, the sentient species were based on vegetable matter and divided into two groups. The E'Fal, of which Lin Canar and Dob Zagil were members, and the O'Lav. The E'Fal lived in the deeper waters where food was plentiful and their society flourished. The O'Lav lived in the shallow waters and spent most of their time just trying to survive. Fluvian needed a Green Lantern to help fight crime and disasters.

Despite his training, Dob Zagil couldn't wipe out crime. He was trying too hard, and finally decided to strike at criminals where they lived. Due to the higher crime rate of the O'Lav, the Green Lantern destroyed their dwellings and floatfarms and contained the O'Lav. His actions appeared to be working, as crime became non-existant, but the O'Lav were terrified of the Green Lantern. This formed a political movement among the grateful E'Fal.

Lin Canar eventually visited the O'Lav to witness the success of the Green Lantern. Canar was shocked by what he saw. He found Dob Zagil's methods deplorable. The Green Lantern was terrorizing innocent and guilty alike.

After confronting Dob, the two were soon fighting. Lin Canar, despite his super strength, was no match for the power ring. The scientist fled, with the Green Lantern in pursuit. He tricked Dob Zagil into destroying his lab, which duplicated the accident that gave Canar his powers.

Lin Canar woke first, and he realized he had lost his super powers in the explosion. He quickly swam to Zagil, who was dazed by the blast, and took the power ring. Canar realized his world needed a Green Lantern to remind people there was another way to solve their poblems. Since the alien had originally chosen him, Lin Canar would be the new Green Lantern of Fluvian. - Green Lantern Corps Quarterly #3

Lin Canar was abducted by a slave ring sometime after the fall of the Green Lantern Corps. Caught with many other powerless Green Lanterns, they were webbed to the walls of their holding area. The Green Lanterns were eventually freed by Guy Gardner, and evacuated by a spacecruiser belonging to the Darkstars.

Lin Canar was most recently seen with the majority of the Green Lantern Corps under the thrall of Krona. -Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors #8
