HISTORY

The nomadic people who calls themselves the "path kind" encountered by the lost Legionnaires in the year 3000 in the Progenitor's galaxy. The Kwai live a wandering existence, feeding on the resources of the planets they cross and the water they extract from comets. Their leader is the matriarch Enkenet. The Kwai all possess "skin-armor" but are a pacifistic society and use it only for defense although some old legends speak of a time when the Kwai were a warrior society. Some of its members recently exhibited this more aggressive "Lone Star" trait inherited from their ancestors. Among them were Shikari, who later joined the Legion of Super-Heroes, and Herros, whose bitterness pushed him to join the Credo.

After the collapse of the Stargate technology, the United Planets were in need of a new way of rapid interplanetary travel. The only alternative, the "Threshold" technology could allow for long distance jumps but lacked in precision. Because of their infallible pathfinding abilities, the Kwai were proposed to become the UP's guides in Threshold travel.
