Synopsis: - Inside the blood gem, the Ray fires a burst of energy at Rott and inadvertently charges the evil being up with enough power to escape the gem and battle the Martian Manhunter outside. The Ray and the Atom meet the real Bloodwynd, also trapped in the gem, who tells them how this situation came about. The gem was created 160 years ago by a group of slaves, some of Bloodwynd's ancestors among them, who used it to suck in their evil master's soul. As time passed, the gem, passed from generation to generation became more powerful, drawing in the dark side of each of its bearers. This darkness melded with Jacob Whitney's soul to create Rott, who became powerful enough to trap Bloodwynd and use the Martian Manhunter as his puppet. As Rott and the Martian Manhunter battle outside the blood gem, the Ray draws some of the energy of the place into himself, severely weakening Rott and drawing him back inside the gem. He then escapes along with the Atom and Bloodwynd, also taking the Weapons Master captive.
