HISTORY

James Rice is the alcoholic, possibly abusive, adoptive father of Obsidian. One of Obsidian's first actions on his campaign of darkness was to take his father captive within the shadow realm. After being rescued by the heroes of the JSA, Rice apparently sacrificed himself to prevent Obsidian from killing Sentinel and hence gaining even more power than he already had.
