HISTORY
The Grendans are descendants of the Hive, a vast artificial intelligence network. Billions of years ago, the Hive sent Brill, the first to take physical, robotic form, to explore the universe and find their creator. This solitary existence on the planet Grenda was a stark contrast to the Hive's interconnectedness.[1] Though Brill's mission failed with its early demise after briefly serving as one of the first Green Lanterns, Brill's efforts revealed a larger universe to its successors.[2]
In more recent times, the Grendans had flourished, populating their planet with other robotic life forms. The most famous being Stel of Grenda who became the Green Lantern of Sector 3009. Perhaps due to Brill's interactions, the Grendan body types skewed towards the humanoid forms. To some organic species, such as the Krydos, this was seen as an affront to creation and hostilities were common.[3]
One Krydos attack occurred during ceremonies to honor Stel who had fallen in battle. Another Grendan, Yron balked at an organic Green Lantern protecting his homeworld and successfully petitioned the Guardians of the Universe for a power ring. Yron's tenure was short as his arrogance almost led to the destruction of his fellow Grendans. Recognizing his shortcomings, Yron sacrificed his life to bring about the return of Stel who drove off the Krydos.[4]
The next significant threat to the Grendans emerged in the form of the Cyborg Superman. Goaded by Krona,[5] the once-human Henshaw used Grenda as a base of operations and imprisoned the Grendan population within a vast cavern. The villain then lured Green Lanterns to the planet, intending to forcibly transform them into Alpha-Lanterns under his control. Furthermore, these captured Lanterns were to serve as test subjects in his twisted scheme to force the Guardian Ganthet to restore his lost humanity.
Initially forced into compliance with the Cyborg Superman's commands, the Grendans were inspired by Stel's unwavering resistance and rallied in an effort to overthrow their oppressor. The sheer will of one billion Grendans, combined with the strain on the Cyborg Superman as he simultaneously controlled the Alpha-Lanterns and battled other Green Lanterns, proved to be his undoing. Ultimately, the Cyborg Superman was defeated, and the Grendans were able to reclaim their world and their hard-won freedom.[6]
POWERS
Grendans generally exhibit greater resilience compared to organic life forms, though their specific attributes may vary depending on their individual model. Some Grendans may be equipped with integrated tools and weapons, while others may utilize external implements.
