GREEN ARROW'S WEAPONS | BIOGRAPHY |
HISTORY
Oliver Queen's archery skills are generally considered the best on the planet. He has trained most of the other major vigilante archers - including Arsenal (Roy Harper), Green Arrow II (Connor Hawke) and Speedy (Mia Dearden). He is known to be able to shoot bulls-eyes on targets from 'several football lengths away.' Queen prefers a true long bow - though he has been known to even substitute a standing harp as a bow in a pinch. He has derided his former ward Roy Harper for using a composite bow, and his son Connor for carrying a spare collapsible bow.
According to accounts, Ollie's bow is constructed of maple hardwood with a rosewood handle, the limbs made of laminated fiberglass. The pull-weight known to flex between 100 pounds and 125 pounds - both well above the average use for hunting. He augments his natural ability with a highly original collection of trick arrows - gimmicked non-lethal weapons that would seem to break the laws of ballistics. He also retains some lethal-force weapons for intimidation and to destroy barriers. Among these are explosives, bolos, nets and his trademark weapon, the Boxing Glove Arrow. He carries his weapons in a specially designed quiver. Oliver used a greater collection of trick arrows during his stint in the JLA - including the exotic Diamond-tipped Arrow that helped him in the adventure that preceded his entry into the League.
During his time in Seattle, the Emerald Archer preferred steel tipped hunting arrows over any of his gimmicked weapons, but his return to life brought back a more limited selection, as well as some new items like a Glue Bomb Arrow. Queen also keeps an 'Arrowcave' of sorts - a training room in the Star City Youth Center he runs. Ollie has, however, gotten rid of many of the gimmicks he had in his early career - including the Arrowcar, Arrowplane and Arrowsub. Oliver finances his weapons by money left to him from departed occultist Stanley Dover after his untimely meeting with his grandson's Monster.
