HISTORY

In order to spare the life of Robin, Batman and Robin were forced to agree to not set foot in Gotham City for one week. In order to keep their promise and still fight crime, Batman designed the Flying Bat-Cave, a rather massive helicopter-like craft replete with all the crime-fighting equipment of its subterranean counterpart. The Dynamic Duo used the Flying Bat-Cave to foil the plots of the criminals throughout the week, and the Flying Bat-Cave was rarely seen again.

-Detective Comics #186

SPECIFICATIONS

The Flying Bat-Cave was equipped with four cameras used to view Gotham City from heights from 10,000 to 200 feet. It had a giant electro-magnet it could lower to near ground level and was large enough to hold the giant penny from the Batcave beneath Wayne Manor as well as a "bat-osphere submersible. The Flying Batcave could fly by automatic pilot and was kept aloft by rotors and up to 50 tanks of helium, as unlikely as that may seem.
