HISTORY
Etrigan the Demon was a servant to Lucifer in Hell, with the duty to keep the lord of Hell entertained through rhyme. However, Etrigan grew tired of serving Lucifer, and decided to start an uprising. For this uprising, he recruited soldiers from the Prose Demons (after a long battle for their leadership) and the Lyrics. However, upon his rebellion, Lucifer defeated him, sending Etrigan to the lowest circle of Hell. Lucifer made a deal with his son, Merlin, to send Etrigan to Earth to serve as Camelot's defense strategy. Lucifer personally banished Etrigan to Earth. However, as soon as Etrigan arrived, Camelot fell under attack by the Daemonites. Jason of Norwich arrived at a poor time, as Merlin transfixed Etrigan and Jason into a curse: The Demon would live inside of Jason and they would have to switch between Hell and Earth.
As part of Jason of Norwich (who would come to be called Jason O' the Blood, or Jason Blood), Etrigan was prepared to kill his lover, Madame Xanadu. However, Xanadu seduced the Demon, saving her life, but also putting a difficulty in Jason's relationship with her. However, Etrigan was a hurdle that had to be dealt with: When Xanadu and Jason attempted to get married, Etrigan burned the church and killed the Minister.
In 1013 AD, at Little Springs, Etrigan was called forth by Jason to fight alongside Xanadu, Al Jabr, Horsewoman, Exoristos, Sir Ystin, and Vandal Savage to defeat the Horde of the Questing Queen. Their victory at Little Pass had them known as the Demon Knights. They all went to Alba Sarum, where they were honored, but also sent on another mission: To go to Avalon and revive the recently assassinated Merlin. On this voyage, Etrigan made plans to turn over the Demon Knights to Lucifer in Hell.
After a battle in the ruins of Camelot where the Demon Knights defeated Morgaine le Fey, Etrigan managed to send everyone to Hell, where he worked alongside Lucifer to plan the conquest of Avalon. However, the Demon Knights escaped Hell, fleeing to Avalon. Etrigan soon found himself captured by the Questing Queen's forces in Avalon. but he escaped and returned to the armies of Lucifer, who thought he had committed treachery. Thus, Etrigan ended up on the side of the Demon Knights once more during the climatic Battle of Avalon. When Merlin was revived, he once again transfixed Etrigan to Jason. Also, the Demon Knights were re-dubbed into Stormwatch.
For thirty years, Jason was held in Gibraltar by Vandal Savage, who used a wizard to mute him. Thus, Etrigan spent a long time in Hell. in 1043 AD, he was finally called upon again by Jason who was free by the Demon Knights, this time to assist in defeating the Vampire forces of Cain. However, Jason remained in Hell, refusing to be switched out. This lead to Etrigan being severely weak during the Demon Knights' trek to Themyscira. It wasn't until Lucifer ordered Jason to allow Etrigan to switch out after finding out that the Demon Knights' opponent was Cain that Jason switched, fixing Etrigan up to be ready to fight in the Battle of Themyscira against the Vampires.
