- This story continues from the last issue and into the next issue.
- The appearance of Death and Destiny in this story was not approved by the writer or editor of the Sandman comic, who did not agree with her portrayal in this story. According to this story "[death] is a big concept, so there is room for more than one" and Death from Sandman was "death as the release, as mercy, as compassion" whereas the Black Racer was "death as an inevitability". As this interpretation was rejected by DC because of this lack of approval, it is possible this entire sequence in Purgatory and Paradise may have all been in Captain Atom's mind and not real. For the purposes of this index the appearances have been regarded as real but that some of the details must be considered erroneous.
